Segel was responsible for almost single-handedly returning the popularity of The Muppets to the big screen in 2011. Segel more noted for his less than family outings with such films and TV outings as “Sex Tape” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” has also made inroads into G-rated fare and family focused entertainment.
Beside “The Muppets” Segel has starred in or lent his voice for such G and PG films as “Despicable Me,” “Gulliver’s Travels” and the slightly more adult comedy “I Love Your, Man” so Warner Bros. seeking out Segel for a sequel to their highly successful “The Lego Movie” is kind of a no-brainer.
The first Lego film garnered nearly $470 million (USD) worldwide. The studio plans on cranking out spinoffs on the Hollywood version of a conveyor belt including this one with Segel titled “The Billion Brick Race,” as well as, “The Lego Batman Movie” sometime in 2017 and “The Lego Movie 2” in 2018.
Segel’s “The Billion Brick Race” is set for theatrical release in 2016.
